Pray for Emotional and Spiritual Healing for Exiled Women in Ghana

Pray that women exiled to remote camps in Ghana will experience the healing found in God’s Word through Bible-based trauma healing groups

In remote communities in Ghana, a 150-year-old tradition allows women falsely accused of witchcraft to be exiled from their homes and sent to “women’s camps” in the northern part of the country.

Already suffering the trauma of being torn from their families, these women are then forced to live in overcrowded mud houses and are often beaten.

But many women are experiencing the hope and healing found in God’s Word through Bible-based trauma healing groups.

God’s Story Is Healing Women’s Lives

Bible Society of Ghana and American Bible Society have partnered to bring story-based trauma healing to two of the seven women’s camps in northern Ghana. Rooted in 320 Scripture verses, story-based trauma healing adapts the Healing the Wounds of Trauma curriculum for communities that prefer oral communication.

Through this ministry, local Christian leaders are empowering suffering women in Ghana to identify their pain, share their hurt, forgive their oppressors, and bring their suffering to the cross of Christ.

In 2017, Bible Society of Ghana seeks to bring story-based trauma healing to a third and fourth women’s camp as well as to translate the story-based trauma healing curriculum into the languages of Konkomba and Dagbani to reach a broader audience.

Join us in praying these traumatized women would experience the healing power of God’s Word through Bible-based trauma healing groups.

Pray for:

  • The exiled women of Ghana. Lift up the thousands of suffering women in Ghana and ask God to heal their wounded hearts.
  • Oppression to end. Pray that God would end the cycles of generational trauma and oppression in Ghana’s rural communities.
  • Bible-based trauma healing facilitators. Ask God to strengthen and equip the facilitators who will introduce women in Ghana to the healing power found in God’s Word.
  • Resources. Ask God to provide the funds needed to bring story-based trauma healing to more women’s camps in northern Ghana.
