Eternal Love: Partner Story

When Mildred Eckert was 20, she committed her life to the Lord.

When Mildred Eckert was 20, she committed her life to the Lord. Since then, she has held the cause of American Bible Society dear to her heart.

“There are people in the world who are truly hungry for the Word of God,” she says. Mildred knows the power of a single Bible. Before her marriage, Mildred’s intended, Charlie, gave her a Bible. She has used that Bible, which is tattered and worn, every day of their 50-year union.

The couple engraved the verse 1 John 4.7 into their wedding bands, which begins, “Beloved, let us love one another…” Some years ago, Charlie was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and Mildred became his caretaker. The times he didn’t recognize Mildred were difficult; however, one day she asked, “Do you know who I am?” He looked at her and said, “Beloved.”

The Eckerts’ Will includes American Bible Society. A charitable remainder trust ensures that Mildred receives a regular income sufficient for all her needs. ABS will eventually receive a portion of the principal of the trust.
