5 Bible Verses to Inspire You to Share Your Faith

God’s Word guides you in spreading the good news

When was the last time you talked about your faith with someone who has not heard or accepted the gospel?

Often, the opportunities for these conversations come naturally: a family member looking for hope after the death of a loved one; a coworker going through a divorce; a neighbor struggling with depression.

But taking advantage of the chance to talk about faith can feel intimidating. What if you say the wrong thing? What if you offend someone? What if your words don’t end up helping them at all?

Throughout the Bible, we’re encouraged to share the good news of Jesus Christ with people seeking hope in a broken world. No matter who we’re talking to, we can find ways to share our faith with gentleness and respect. And in every conversation, we can find confidence in the promise that God will grant us the strength and wisdom we need to shine the light of the gospel.

Here are five Bible verses to inspire you to share your faith today!

Sharing the good news is built into your faith.

Jesus drew near and said to them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples: baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to obey everything I have commanded you. And I will be with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18-20 GNT

One of Jesus’s last commands to his disciples was to share the gospel with others. Today, that same command—known as the Great Commission—extends to everyone who follows Jesus. When we invite people to put their trust in Jesus, we’re continuing a mission that has been going on for centuries!

The Holy Spirit provides the power you need to share the gospel.

“When the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you will be filled with power, and you will be witnesses for me in Jerusalem, in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8 GNT

The Bible makes it clear that the Holy Spirit is God’s gift to us. Through the Spirit’s work, our hearts are transformed when we trust in Jesus Christ. And through the Spirit’s wisdom and power, we can witness to other people.

Sharing the gospel isn’t always easy—but God gives us grace and strength.

Do not be ashamed, then, of witnessing for our Lord; neither be ashamed of me, a prisoner for Christ’s sake. Instead, take your part in suffering for the Good News, as God gives you the strength for it. He saved us and called us to be his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of his own purpose and grace. He gave us this grace by means of Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but now it has been revealed to us through the coming of our Savior, Christ Jesus. He has ended the power of death and through the gospel has revealed immortal life.

2 Timothy 1:8-12 GNT

Sharing your faith can be an uncomfortable, unpleasant, or even dangerous experience. While you may never face persecution or death for sharing the gospel, you might experience rejection from friends and family members. But God promises to give you grace and strength through Jesus Christ. As you remember what God did for you, you can find new boldness in sharing with others what God can do for them.

Your witness includes your works.

“You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.”

Matthew 5:14-16 GNT

It can be overwhelming to think about explaining your faith. But when it comes to witnessing, the saying that “actions speak louder than words” often rings true. Scripture tells us that we share the gospel by telling and following the teachings of Scripture in our own lives. By God’s grace, even the smallest actions in our lives can cause people around us to want to learn more about our faith, giving us another opportunity to share the good news.

Sharing your faith is another way to praise God.

In the assembly of all your people, LORD,
I told the good news that you save us.
You know that I will never stop telling it.
I have not kept the news of salvation to myself;
I have always spoken of your faithfulness and help.
In the assembly of all your people I have not been silent
about your loyalty and constant love.

Psalm 40:9-10 GNT

When our lives are transformed by Jesus Christ, we have good news that is too wonderful to keep to ourselves. In addition to reaching others with the gospel, we are also sharing the amazing story of God’s salvation in our own lives. It’s just another opportunity to praise and thank our heavenly Father for everything he has done for us!
