Michael Nutter, pictured above, said the Good News Bible is the only book he still has from high school.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter says he used the Good News Bible to encourage city dwellers to respond to the 2010 census. This is according to Philadelphia Inquirer staff writer Dianna Marder, whose March 15 article, “Sermon on the (Head) Count,” recounted Mayor Nutter's comments. He added that he received his copy of Good News for Modern Man as a high school freshman. He said, “This is probably the only book I still have from high school,” clutching the tattered paperback. “. . . I had no idea it would come in this handy.”

Nutter read from Luke 2.1-3, which concerns a particularly memorable census. “So, a census is serious business,” he concluded.
